People trust people. That is why reviews and testimonials do more for a local business website than another stock photo ever will.
If you have happy clients, put that proof where visitors can see it. Here is a simple way to use reviews without making your site feel spammy.
Collect real words, not vague praise
The best testimonials mention a specific result or feeling: the site was easier to update, launch felt smooth, customers said it looked more professional. Generic lines like “great to work with” help a little. Specific ones help a lot.
Ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a win: launch day, a successful update, or a kind email saying thanks. Keep the ask short. One Google review request is enough. Do not stack five platforms on them at once.
Put reviews where decisions happen
Homepage near your main offer. Service pages before the contact form. A simple reviews or kind words section linked from the menu if you have enough of them.
Google Business Profile reviews still matter for local search, so keep that profile active even when your website highlights a few favorites.
Use names and context when you can
“Robin R., nonprofit director” beats “Happy Customer.” If your client is comfortable, first name and role or business type is plenty. Always respect privacy for sensitive industries.
Reply to public reviews
A short, human reply on Google shows you are paying attention. Thank them, mention the project if it fits, and keep it professional. No hard sell.
Do not fake it
Invented reviews get found out. So does over-editing someone’s words until they sound like marketing copy. Light cleanup for grammar is fine. Changing the meaning is not.
Make the site match the promise
Reviews raise expectations. If people say your work is clean and modern, an outdated site undercuts that message. Proof and presentation have to line up.
